Log Home, Dover Plains, NY

Here are some images from a newly built log home near Dover Plains. Of course, the natural colors and textures of the log and timber construction dominates the interior spaces. The objective was to treat the sheetrocked walls in a way that augmented the rustic patina inherent in the construction, and serve as a soft compliment to the organic materials in the space.

Soft pale colorwash near the front entrance. This color and treatment continued in the stairway, and connecting spaces.
A mural tile over the wine bar. The scene is a modification the view from the home

In process: the steel rear door being transformed into one of pine. On the wall more color wash in a deeper hue than that near the entry.

Bronxville Condo

The request was to help bring some color and character to areas of this condo in Bronxille, NY.

Entry before

Entry after

The walls of the entry and hall areas had just been painted. Leaving this color, we added a snap life by painting the ceiling a pale blue. The panel insets throughout were washed with a lighter color mixture to add some interest and distinction. Four plaster corbels at the base of two arches in the entry were stripped and glazed with several layers to draw out the sculptural detail of the pieces.

A deep brown for the walls, and a lighter shade on the ceiling give the bedroom a dramatic but soothing quality.

Current Affairs

I'm currently working on a wine cellar in Beacon NY. The project emcompasses colorwashing, on the walls, a ceiling mural, and a small mural depicting cherubs. I expect to finish next week, and I'll post a few preliminary images after that. As a preview, above is an early roughed in sketch from the small mural showing the angels opening a bottle of champagne.

I'm planning on being in Denver for the 2nd half of March to work on a few projects, and line up a few projects for sometime in the Summer. If you're in Denver, and interested in receiving an estimate for a project, please email me at info@christopheralbert.com

Powder Room, Yorktown Heights

I'm catching up a little on photographing a few projects. I'll be posting these images in the coming weeks. Generally I'll take a few quick shots when I finish my portion of a room, but it may take some time longer for a room to be fully finish, as with this powder room project from 2004. The project is located in Yorktown Heights NY. I worked on the paneling on the bottom half of the room, and the crown moulding at the ceiling. The designer, Rena Wilhelm, stipulated a sort of faux bois effect, but using a bronze metallic glaze. Between the treatment on the paneling, and the wallpaper, the transformation of the room is dramatic, and of another time.

The mirror also received some antiquing.

The crown moulding features the same treatment as the paneling, along with a touch of gilding to highlight some some of the moulding details
